The flagship Chinese-language daily of SPH Media, Lianhe Zaobao (LHZB), is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a refreshed look, a new logo and four commemorative projects.

As of 7 September, readers were greeted with a refreshed look and a new LHZB logo across the print edition and digital platforms. The print edition also spots new mastheads on its front page and sections while the homepage of the LHZB’s website has been revamped to facilitate easier navigation and offer an enhanced reading experience.

The refreshed LHZB is also accompanied by an updated content strategy. Now, content will be presented in more relatable and informative ways, such as the introduction of explainers to explain current issues and to provide answers to questions that interest readers, said SPH. More videos and audio content will also accompany news articles to facilitate a better understanding of complex issues.

New content series and programmes will also be gradually rolled out in the coming year to provide more insights and analyses on issues that matter to LHZB’s domestic and global audiences, it said. The LHZB website and app will also be optimised progressively to improve user experience.

With its new brand refresh, LHZB aims to deliver on its brand promise of “Leading Conversations, With You”, it said.

It added that it will be rolling out a marketing campaign across print, digital and social media in October to promote the refreshed LHZB.

“From the black and white print layout in its early years to the diversity of multimedia content, LHZB’s journey has been one of adaptation and innovation. Not only did we embrace change, but we also harnessed the momentum of change to transcend the confines of ink and paper," said Goh Sin Teck, editor of Lianhe Zaobao.

"LHZB stands as a testament to the power of transformation, offering not just text, but a fusion of visuals, sounds, and interactive experiences that cater to different audiences. Our new brand promise and content strategy signify our commitment to continue to adapt and innovate with our audiences, as we embark on our next centennial,” he said.

In addition to the brand refresh, LHZB has launched a string of commemorative projects to mark its centennial. These include the LHZB Centennial Oral History website, a commemorative book titled "Our Story, An Oral History of Lianhe Zaobao", an online interactive graphic and an online documentary series titled “The News Catcher”.
