Lazada adds Halal category ahead of Ramadan, creates 9 personalised profiles for shoppers

Lazada Singapore is creating a new Halal category ahead of the Ramadan festival. Muslim businesses can tap on the platform’s newly introduced Halal Channel category on RedMart, which will feature Halal food products for Singapore’s Muslim community. There are also plans to introduce a Halal Cooking Show, as well as the distribution of groceries to those in need in the precinct.

The Halal Channel sits alongside other specialist channels such as China Mart, India Mart, K Mart and J Mart, which were curated to better serve RedMart’s Chinese, Indian, Korean and Japanese audiences respectively. MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has reached out to Lazada for comment. Loh Wee Lee, chief executive of Lazada Singapore, said that it is important that products and food available on Lazada is reflective of the community, and its new Halal Channel was designed to support the Muslim and Halal businesses and shoppers.

Meanwhile the platform has tied up with One Kampong Gelam (OKG) to drive digitalisation and support businesses in going digital. The one-year partnership will see over 200 Kampong Gelam businesses and merchants joining Lazada’s industry-leading marketplace.  As part of the partnership, Lazada will incubate these businesses with credits to jumpstart their digitalisation efforts, and conduct seminars on eCommerce to educate and prepare them on the new trends in eCommerce, including livestreaming on LazLive, and running campaigns. Lazada Singapore will also support various OKG festivities and events, kickstarting with the Ramadan celebrations in April, where Kampong Gelam will be the anchor partner for Lazada’s upcoming 4.4 campaign.

Just last month, Lazada Singapore partnered with Radin Mas constituency to help 581 heartland merchants and hawkers sell their goods and services on the new dedicated Radin Mas Marketplace @ Lazada page, which will launch in April. Among the list of merchants that have jumped on board include household item retail store Bess Choice, and hawker stall Hock Shun Traditional Home Made Curry.

Meanwhile, the eCommerce marketplace has launched a personalised in-app feature known as “Lazada Time Machine” in celebration of its 10th anniversary. The latest feature takes each shopper through the highlights of their Lazada journey, including a personalised profile. Shoppers can then share their unique Lazada journey and special moments on social media and stand a chance to unlock more rewards as well.

Shoppers' profiles have been categorised according to the time of the day they shop on the app - early riser, noon deal hunter, tea-time go-getter, sunset sniper and night owl - as well as the type of products they purchase.

Additionally, Lazada's LazLive channel will feature a special non-stop 10-hour livestream on 26 March, counting down to its anniversary on 27 March. The livestream will feature interactive gameshows and exclusive giveaways leading up to its signature Super Party, where consumers will be treated to exclusive performances by local artists from Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. Lazada’s hallmark "shoppertainment" features such as Voucher Rain will also return for in-app viewers to collect more vouchers to use alongside their Free Shipping and Lazada Bonus rewards.

Shoppers can also participate in the platform's #ShareYourEpic birthday social media contest, which will be launched across the region.  At the same time, Lazada launched a short film to promote its 10th anniversary and all its festivities. The video shows Lazada’s brand ambassadors leading guests through the vibrant and futuristic retail wonderland to meet Lazada’s mascot Lazzie and a surprise guest around a colossal birthday cake at the heart of the city to celebrate Lazada’s anniversary.
