Homegrown Korean dining chain K Fry Urban Korean (K Fry) is adding a playful, icy twist to this year’s Merdeka celebrations with a limited-time menu, “Cool-lah Malaysia! Unity on ice,” available until 30 September 2025.

The seasonal menu reimagines Malaysia’s favourite flavours through the lens of K Fry’s signature Korean flair, delivering a chilled-out tribute to unity, culture, and togetherness. Designed to beat the Malaysian heat, the menu features refreshing elements while honouring the bold, familiar tastes Malaysians know and love.

Among the highlights is the 'Icy sweet and sour chicken', pairing crispy boneless Korean-style chicken with a tangy sweet-and-sour glaze. Served over ice and topped with mangoes, lychee, and cherry tomatoes, the dish is a cooling, tropical twist on a local favourite.

For dessert, the 'Colours of gemilang hwachae' puts a vibrant spin on the traditional Korean fruit punch. Sprite-flavoured shaved ice forms the base for a medley of brown sugar boba, mango balls, watermelon, sago, and butterfly pea jelly, a treat as colourful as a Merdeka parade.

The 'Mango swirl shake' rounds out the limited-time menu. Rich and creamy, it blends ripe mango with mango sauce and a cloud of whipped cream, offering a sweet finale to the festive meal.

K Fry said the “Cool-lah Malaysia! Unity on ice” campaign celebrates the magic that happens when diverse flavours unite, reflecting the spirit of Merdeka while keeping the dining experience fresh and fun.

Founded in 2016, K Fry has grown to 10 outlets across Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Seremban, and Johor, carving a niche for its hearty Korean dishes with a local twist. Known for hits such as its cheesy fried chicken bumbuk (hot pan cheese dip) and bingsoo (shaved ice) desserts, the brand continues to build its identity around quality, innovation, and creating vibrant dining experiences for Malaysians.

Meanwhile, other brands across Malaysia are also unveiling their campaigns for the Merdeka month. Spritzer Sparkling is adding a sparkling boost to the nation’s celebrations with its high-energy campaign, titled “Kasi sparkling, baru kick!” ("Use sparkling, for a kick"). The campaign celebrates the quintessential Malaysian experience of bonding over food and drinks by giving classic local beverages a fizzy twist.

Separately, KFC Malaysia is celebrating Merdeka with a campaign that blends fried chicken with fine art, turning 14 of its outlets into vibrant canvases of Malaysian pride. The 2025 edition of "KFC cara kita" (“KFC our way”) sees the fast-food giant teaming up with 11 homegrown artists, to tell uniquely Malaysian stories through mural art.
