Junior growth marketing execs earn more than product and brand, finds study

Marketing and PR functions are becoming extremely crucial to tech companies. The needs of a Series A company, however, will obviously differ from those of a Series C company, thus diversifying the functions of marketing and PR. From growth marketing, product marketing and brand marketing to PR, these roles are important in building a solid foundation for tech companies.
A study by Monk's Hill Ventures and Southeast Asian talent platform Glints revealed that base salary for junior roles in growth marketing is US$3,700 and goes up to US$5,600, while mid-tier roles range between US$5,200 to US$7,500. Senior growth marketing roles range between US$7,500 to US$8,900. Meanwhile, the salary for senior roles in product marketing in Singapore is higher compared to growth marketing, ranging from US$9,000 to US$12,000. Salary for mid-tier roles in this function range from US$5,500 to US$9,000, while junior roles range from US$3,000 to US$5,500.
Brand marketing roles in Singapore bring home a slightly lesser amount compared to growth marketing and product marketing. The starting salary for junior roles is US$3,000 while mid-tier roles is US$4,000. Meanwhile, the starting pay for senior roles is US$6,000.
That said, the study found that the salary for the PR function ranks the lowest among the four functions. The pay for junior roles start from US$2,200, while mid-tier and senior roles start from US$3,200 and US$4,500 respectively. As digitalisation accelrates and government support increases, the study expects more PR and marketing talent working in tech start-ups.
At the same time, data science roles such as data analyst, data scientist, and data engineering continue to be crucial for start-ups. The study found that data science is the third most in-demand role after engineering and product across Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Singapore's larger talent pool and high tech infrastructure positions it as a hub for data scientist tech talent in the region. According to the study, senior data scientists in Singapore bring home between US$3,500 to US$8,500 compared to their counterparts in Vietnam and Indonesia. Senior data scientists in these two countries bring home US$2,000 to US$5,000 and US$1,400 to US$2,300 respectively.
The same can be said of junior data scientists too, with those in Singapore bringing home a higher salary of between US$2,500 to US$5,500. Data scientists roles also have the potential of commanding an even higher salary at mid to late-stage tech companies, with head of data science roles in Singapore-based start-ups earning between US$12,000 to US$14,000 per month, the study said.
The study covers more than 1,000 data points for tech startup talent and interviews with over 20 founders across Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam. They include Carro, Carousel, Fave, Ninja Van, and Homage, among others.
