Hongkongers' music consumption pattern changed last year as some of them chose to work from home or required to attend classes at home. JOOX has unveiled some interesting statistics of Hongkongers' music listening patterns in 2020, including the most popular songs, singers, and the total streaming time.

Meanwhile, JOOX has also observed that more users had engaged in the karaoke function during the stay-at-home period. 590,000 karaoke songs were uploaded to JOOX over the past year, a threefold increase compared to the previous year.

Among the top five most sung songs, four of them were also in the list of top 10 most streamed songs.
1. Terrence Lam - Solitude (一人之境)
2. Hubert Wu - 凡人不懂愛
3. Kayee Tam - 原來有愛
4. Dear Jane - Galactic Repairman (銀河修理員)
5. Angela Hui - 別為我好

In addition to the karaoke feature, JOOX arranged many concerts and programmes throughout the year. With nearly 200 live music shows featuring over 170 artists, JOOX rolled out some notable performances, including an event (JOOX音樂選宅) which was held for two weeks at the beginning of the year, inviting more than 20 singers to use music to engage audiences. In August, JOOX collaborated with the label Warner Music to create four “JOOX Staycation Live” shows. Four Warner singers and groups, including Mag Lam, Janice, Alfred Hui and Dear Jane, presented multiple songs for music fans.

As for music consumption patterns, Hongkongers listened to songs anytime without a specific peak hour when they worked from home. However, when returned to school and work, two peak hours were recorded: 8am and 6pm.

Also, during the work-from-home period, JOOX users in Hong Kong listened to more than 20 songs a day on average, but the least streaming times are on Saturdays and Sundays. Lastly, the total streaming time by JOOX users in Hong Kong is equivalent to watching all entries in a superhero film series — one million times.
