InvestHK's annual StartmeupHK Festival is being extended to a worldwide audience, courtesy of a new programme.

The department has announced the launch of six virtual StartmeupHK Salon events that will take place in North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East, India, ASEAN and the Greater Bay Area. The events are designed to attract potential audiences from around the globe who may be interested to enter Hong Kong's startup scene.

The StartmeupHK Salons will be customised for each location, and offer three to four panel discussions addressing topics that cover both the challenges and opportunities facing startups in a post-COVID world.

A Startup Panel will feature successful startups that have opened their business in Hong Kong or moved here as an entry point toward doing business in the Mainland or across Asia. An Investor Panel will address challenges faced by the VC community and analyse which sectors are primed for a rebound in 2021.

A Corporate Panel will address the growing importance of CSR/ESG, and the impact of technology with regards to startups and innovation. Additionally, a Greater Bay Panel will further outline the opportunities for businesses setting up in Hong Kong to reach the Mainland market.

"The world has faced overwhelming disruption over the last year, but, true to form, so many startups have done what they do so well, to pivot to meet new demands. This year’s StartmeupHK Festival will focus on looking towards a prosperous future,” said Stephen Phillips, director general of investment promotion at InvestHK.

"Our StartmeupHK Salons will give participants the opportunity to hear and discuss the latest global industry trends, identify new opportunities and get insights from global thought leaders who have adapted and innovated during these unprecedented times," he added.
