Indosat tests network reliability with 11-hour TikTok Live along Jakarta-Yogyakarta mudik route

Eid homecoming travel has long been associated with patchy mobile signals, but Indonesian telco Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison has turned the concern into a marketing and network demonstration by supporting an 11-hour non-stop TikTok livestream that set a national record.

Content creators Dave Hendrik and Iwet Ramadhan completed the livestream while travelling from Jakarta to Yogyakarta as part of the #DVET “The journey to become better” programme. The broadcast, which ran continuously for 11 hours without interruption, was recognised by the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) as the longest nonstop TikTok livestream along an Eid homecoming route.

The initiative invited viewers to virtually join the journey, with the pair streaming conversations, travel stories and Ramadan reflections from inside their car while moving across multiple high-mobility points along the route. Guest appearances included nutritionist Dion Haryadi, Lutfi Afansyah, Boah Sartika, Gian Pratama and Ust. Alfie.

The creators said the livestream demonstrated how connectivity has become part of the modern Eid travel experience. “It was incredibly exciting to bring our followers along for a virtual Eid homecoming. From the start of the trip until we were approaching Jogja, everything felt very smooth. It felt like a long journey shared with millions of people,” they said.

Turning mudik into a network showcase

For Indosat, the livestream also doubled as a real-world stress test for its network during one of Indonesia’s busiest travel periods.

The activation formed part of the company’s Reliable Network Expedition, designed to demonstrate network readiness along key Eid homecoming routes – where millions of Indonesians travel simultaneously and rely heavily on connectivity for navigation, communication with family, digital transactions and entertainment.

To support the initiative, the company said it had optimised its network across more than 75 major Eid homecoming routes and over 790 points of interest, including toll gates, rest areas, train stations, bus terminals and popular tourist destinations. The network is monitored around the clock throughout the holiday period to maintain service quality.

Internal measurements during the expedition recorded average internet speeds of around 90 Mbps during the livestream. Even in areas with weaker coverage, speeds remained sufficient to sustain the broadcast at roughly 15 Mbps.

According to Indosat president director and CEO Vikram Sinha, the campaign reflects how connectivity is increasingly central to the Eid travel experience.

“Millions of people travel at the same time, and customers want to stay connected with their families, share moments, navigate their journeys, and enjoy the trip without disruption. That is why we ensure that the Indosat network remains reliable along major Eid homecoming routes. For us, delivering better connectivity is a continuous journey, not just a claim, but a real experience felt by customers in every kilometre of their journey,” he said.

Connectivity as part of the journey

The campaign also ties into Indosat’s broader #LebihBaikIndosat commitment, which focuses on four pillars: building a more reliable network, deploying more relevant technology, strengthening digital protection, and delivering greater social impact.

By combining influencer storytelling, livestream culture and real-time network testing, the record-breaking activation highlights how the annual mudik journey is evolving in the digital era.

Today, travelling home for Eid is no longer only about distance. It is also about staying connected, sharing stories and experiences online, and bringing others along for the journey – every kilometre of the way.
