Indonesian gaming influencer appeals to president over blocked YouTube videos

Indonesian gaming influencer Kimi Hime has put up another video on YouTube addressing to president Joko Widodo, after some videos were blocked in the country for sexual innuendos. This comes after YouTube conceded to a request by communication and IT ministry Kominfo to suspend three of Hime's videos, which it deemed to be "vulgar" and in violation of an article in the Information and Electronic Transactions Act, according to media outlets such as CNN Indonesia. In a statement to Marketing Interactive, a YouTube spokesperson said responsibility remains the company's priority and it invests heavily in its teams, technology and processes to protect the platform. "We can't comment on the specifics, but we will take appropriate action to any content that violates our policies and local laws or regulations. We also respond to legal requests to remove content that violates local laws," said YouTube. The spokesperson added that in all cases, the decision to restrict local access to a video only comes after a "thorough review to determine if the request meets both the letter and spirit of the law".Hime's video to president Joko Widodo has garnered near to two million views and over 18,600 comments within five days. In it, she claimed that while the suspended videos may have misleading titles as click bait, they did not breach any laws on pornography or indecency. Marketing Interactive has reached out to Google for its comments.[embed]https://youtu.be/HLkZNGl101k[/embed]The three gaming videos in contention are titled: “Strip Challenge – Mati Satu Kali = Buka Baju” (clothing removed every time I die), “Lagi Tegang, Eh Keluar Putih Putih!?” (hold on, white stuff coming out), and “Keasyikan Bermain, Gadis Ini Mengeluarkan Cairan Lengket” (this girl secretes sticky liquid during fun play). While suggestive, the videos do not contain nudity. As seen on her YouTube channel, the cover photos of Hime's videos mostly feature her in revealing outfits, presumably to draw viewers, but the videos are actually in-game live-streams and commentaries. Featured games include PUBG Mobile, Mobile Legends and Dota 2.This is not the first time an influencer has gotten into trouble in Indonesia. Earlier this month, Garuda Indonesia sued Indonesian vlogger Rius Vernandes after his YouTube video sharing a handwritten menu by a cabin crew member on board the airline’s business class flight went viral. But the airline later dropped the defamation case and reached a peaceful agreement with Vernandes.
