
Hysan Place launches Doraemon 50th anniversary exhibitions and pop-up stores

A popular Japanese manga series, Doraemon has been used to depict Hongkongers' collective memories across generations. To commemorate Doraemon’s 50th anniversary, a pop-up store and exhibition have been set up at Hysan Place to engage fans.
The Doraemon Manga Time pop-up store and themed takeaway café is running until 15 September. A number of giant Doraemon exhibits have been placed inside and outside Hysan Place showcasing the eponymous character, Doraemon, reading manga - his favourite pastime at home.
The event also includes a wide variety of souvenirs on-site, including limited edition products. Apart from exhibitions at Hysan Place, the Doraemon Manga Time Photo Booth, located at Lee Theatre Plaza, is also open to the public as well.
The first full story in the Doraemon manga series was published in January 1970. As one of Hongkongers’ favourite figures, Doraemon, celebrating his 50th anniversary this year with a wide range of marketing initiatives. For example, a Doraemon statue available to order online.
Throughout the years, a number of events have been held to celebrate Doraemon. In 2015, Stand by Me Doraemon was staged across the city's cinemas to celebrate the birth of Fujiko Fujio.
