For many, Chinese New Year represents a time for family reunions and togetherness and Hong Kong's shopping malls, hoping to capitalise that and draw footfall from those families, have been setting up decorations to celebrate. At the IFC mall, a cuju-themed display with interactive elements has been installed to engage visitors.

Cuju is an ancient Chinese ball game considered as one of the earliest variations on football. The ball-shaped installation is also accompanied by decorative lanterns, flying birds, and fresh flowers to produce a traditional Chinese New Year environment.

The giant cuju ball itself is adorned with auspicious patterns - symbolic of positive attributes like wealth or health - to ring in the Year of the Rat. Meanwhile, the series of hanging lanterns and flying birds go beyond their aesthetic value and provide a chance for visitors to wish for happiness, good fortune, and good health in the new year.

Visitors can also stroll along a mini bridge that has been constructed and take in the view of blossoming red and pink kalanchoe and begonia roses surrounding it.

In addition to these and other decorations throughout the mall, a photo zone has also been made open to visitors to create personalised festive WhatsApp stickers. Visitors can take selfies or group photos attached to individualised auspicious messages to share with their loved ones.
