Hong Kong is set to transform into a massive cosplay-themed street party this Halloween as the city scales up its seasonal festivities.

Organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) for the first time, together with parties such as Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and Ocean Park Hong Kong, the initiative aims to transform the entire city into a giant Halloween party and entice travellers to visit.

From now until 1 November, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort presents "Disney Halloween Time," featuring villains, live shows, themed food, merchandise, and trick-or-treat fun. Ocean Park Hong Kong's "Halloween Fest" also returns until 1 November, featuring four scare experiences, a Jackson Wang "Under the Castle" collaboration, themed dining and limited-edition merchandise.

Beyond promoting Halloween celebrations at the two major theme parks, HKTB has partnered with Hongkong Land, Kai Tak Sports Park, the Lan Kwai Fong Association, Langham Place and Sino Group to create a cross-district Halloween cosplay street party, inviting people of all ages to dress up and join the revelry.

Starting on 17 October and spanning three consecutive Saturdays, popular tourism districts including Central, Kai Tak, Lan Kwai Fong, Mong Kok and Tsim Sha Tsui will come alive with Halloween cosplay street parties featuring an array of programmes, including electronic music parties, cosplay carnivals, interactive ghost performances and immersive experiences. Blending classic Halloween elements with popular anime and movie characters, contemporary art and distinctive local culture such as Hong Kong’s iconic red minibuses and Cantopop, the events seek to offer a uniquely Hong Kong Halloween experience.

In collaboration with Hongkong Land, Halloween in Central is the city's first large-scale Halloween celebration inspired by Central's heritage streetscape. Spanning Statue Square Gardens and Chater Road, it turns Central into a vibrant Halloween playground blending art, culture and festivity. Chater Road hosts themed programmes including a wellness day, outdoor music party, family carnival and cosplay street party on Halloween night, while Statue Square Gardens features art installations and photo spots such as giant eyeballs, a mysterious gateway and a haunted jail, illuminated each evening.

Another tourist spot, Kai Tak Sports Park, will also launch a Halloween Party featuring Halloween-inspired cosplay, a Canto classic hits DJ party, street dance and high-energy dance performances, and a large-scale Halloween Cosplay Party.

Participants are invited to dress up in full costume and immerse themselves in the festive celebrations. The venue will feature neon light installations and a Halloween-themed marketplace, alongside distinctive three-dimensional photo spots created in collaboration with local comic artists. Veteran cosplayers, who also serve as costume design instructors, will present exclusive original works, giving visitors a taste of Hong Kong’s creative culture.

Meanwhile, Langham Place will launch "Halloween Street Fest", billed as Mong Kok's largest-ever Halloween street party, blending cosplay, live music, street culture and local Hong Kong elements. Highlights include Hong Kong-style monster characters, the "Mong Kok Haunted MiniBus" installation by designer-toy artist DANSIN, performances by world-champion cosplayers Ar Lu and Ronnie, local bands and DJs, plus street dance, busking, costume photo spots and interactive games.

Visitors can also enjoy Halloween-inspired local delicacies, sticker tattoos, trick-or-treat activities and exclusive promotions with Langham Place, Cordis and participating merchants for an "Only in Hong Kong" Halloween experience.

Sino Group will also join the Halloween celebration with "The TST East Halloween Beats", bringing together cosplay culture, electronic dance music and street carnival elements in a vibrant Halloween celebration. Local and international DJs will take turns performing, whilst the venue will feature limited-edition neon photo installations that echo the distinctive lighting displays of Tsim Sha Tsui East.

The event will also feature a special collaboration with local artiste Kenny Kwan, whose intellectual property (IP) characters “Riceball” and “Meatball” will make their debut in whimsical Halloween costumes. Complemented by a quirky market, unique food stalls, and fancy dress and face-painting experiences, the event invites locals and visitors alike to join in the Halloween revelry.

In expanding the festive experience across the city, HKTB has teamed up with Citybus and Hong Kong Tramways to offer complimentary Halloween night rides, allowing visitors to soak up the atmosphere and capture memorable photos along the way.

Citybus will run a Halloween-themed open-top sightseeing route on three Saturday evenings, 17, 24 and 31 October, stopping at key festive hotspots across Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, including Statue Square, Langham Place, Kai Tak Sports Park, Tsim Sha Tsui Centre and Lan Kwai Fong. Visitors in creative Halloween costumes ride free and enjoy the city's lively atmosphere from a new perspective.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong Tramways will turn two themed trams into Halloween party trams, running between Causeway Bay and Sheung Wan on the same three Saturday evenings. Normally for private hire, they will open to the public this Halloween, letting visitors in festive attire hop on for free and enjoy the night scenery on a one-of-a-kind "Ding Ding" tram experience.

To reach a wider audience, HKTB will run a social media campaign during "Hong Kong Halloween Month" to encourage participation and sharing. Participants can post Hong Kong Halloween photos or short videos, tag @discoverhongkong, and use #HKHalloweenMonth and #OnlyInHongKong. The most creative and entertaining entries will win attractive prizes and may be featured on HKTB's promotional platforms, showcasing Hong Kong's unique Halloween charm to global audiences.

To help visitors and locals plan their itineraries for "Hong Kong Halloween month," the HKTB has launched a dedicated page on its Discover Hong Kong platform. It consolidates citywide Halloween events, including photo spots, cosplay street parties, theme park programmes, festive transport, and limited-time offers.

HKTB executive director Anthony Lau said, “Following the tremendous response from both residents and visitors to our new ‘International lantern spectacular’, which blended local tradition with international culture, we are expanding the scale of our Halloween promotions. What was once concentrated on a single day or a few venues is being upgraded into ‘Hong Kong Halloween Month’, a city-wide celebration spanning an entire month. We want to turn up the festive energy across all corners of the city and invite visitors and locals alike to dress up, join the street party themed ‘Make the Streets Your Runway’, and experience a Halloween celebration found ‘Only in Hong Kong’.”

“I extend my sincere gratitude to all our partners, supporting organisations and the wider industry for coming together to deliver the most exciting Halloween festivities possible. Our shared ambition is to make Hong Kong the go-to Halloween destination in Asia - the first city that comes to mind when people think of where to celebrate - while driving footfall and business opportunities across districts and sectors,” Lau added.
