Teen singer Chantel Yiu Cheuk Faye has sought an injunction from the High Court against disclosure of three videos regarding her romantic relationships, which has reportedly defamed her public image as a renowned artist in Hong Kong, mainland and worldwide.  The 15-year-old singer has also asked for compensation from the person who is suspected to have released the videos with no consent, but no amount was listed in the writ filed by Yiu's father Raman on her behalf on 30 June 2022.

According to the writ, the three videos that emerged on social media around 23 June 2022 revealed a girl trying on a white dress and holding hands with someone, with subtitles illustrating that Yiu has inappropriate relationships with men. However, the subtitles were not inserted by the singer herself.

"The three video clips, in combination with statements that are defamatory to Yiu, falsely and maliciously suggest and insinuate that Yiu, as a minor, has initiated, suggested or otherwise engaged in improper relationships of a sexual nature with others, contrary to her public image." Yiu's father said in the writ.

Her father is also seeking the court's aid in restraining the public from publishing, republishing, circulating or spreading the videos on any online platforms, including Lihkg, Facebook and Telegram. He also added that any activities that involve assisting, procuring, aiding or authorizing others to spread the corresponding videos should be prohibited.

Earlier on June 30, TVB issued a statement that Raman Yiu, father of the singer, had since commenced civil proceedings over the videos in question, and that the broadcaster will not comment on the matter as legal proceedings are in progress.

Yiu has participated in numerous brand partnerships and campaigns recently, including Bank of China Hong Kong (BOCHK)’s BoC Pay. The campaign aims to support the introduction of the second phase of the Consumer Voucher Scheme (CVS). The complementary video ad features Hong Kong artist Dodo Cheng and singer Chantel Yiu, recommending Hongkongers to switch their CVS payment platform to BoC Pay. In the video ad, Cheng played the role of “著數姐”, sharing the advantages of switching to BoC Pay for spending consumer vouchers, insisting “earning as much as possible”. Whereas the 15-year-old Yiu, featured as Cheng’s young assistant, analysed the news and updates on social platforms about the new CVS payment system, despite not being eligible to spend consumer vouchers.
