Emirates steps in to support Hong Kong Open

Emirates airline has been announced as official airline of Hong Kong Open Championship 2013, marking the ninth consecutive year the Dubai-based airline has sponsored the international tournament.The announcement comes after Hong Kong government's Mega Event Fund's (MEF) decision to cease sponsoring the event back in October, denying multi-million dollars funds for the event which is managed jointly by European Tour, Asian Tour and The Hong Kong Golf Association.Also absence of funding for the event is the Swiss banking giant UBS, the title sponsor of the event for the past eight years.In this year tournament, Emirates airline will be sponsoring Hole 12 along with various activities at on-site booths. They include “The Emirates Hole-in-One Contest”, “The Emirates Golf Clinic”, and “Stand a chance to win a golf trip to Dubai with Emirates' website competition”.Edwin Lau, vice president of Emirates Hong Kong and Taiwan, said: “Emirates is the Official Airline for the Hong Kong Open, and 11 other golf tournaments worldwide, including HSBC Champions in Shanghai and DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.”“We have been a keen supporter for the Hong Kong Open for the past eight years and it’s the ninth year that we take the tournament to interact with our valuable customers in a relaxing environment,” he added.Also on the sponsor list include Amundi Asset, Master Card, BMW, DP World and other government sport event including “M” Mark Event.Hong Kong Open Championship 2013 will place at The Hong Kong Golf Club at Fanling from today to 8 December.
