HABIB shines light on conservation with latest Zoo Negara collection

HABIB has unveiled the fourth instalment of its limited-edition gold wafer collection in collaboration with Zoo Negara, continuing its mission to celebrate Malaysia’s wildlife while supporting conservation efforts.

The new HABIB x Zoo Negara 999.9 gold wafer collection features four intricately designed wafers depicting the panda, sun bear, tapir and black panther, each crafted from 999.9 fine gold and inspired by the animals’ natural habitats. The designs reflect the cycle of a day in nature, beginning with the panda in the calm of morning, moving to the sun bear at noon, followed by the tapir in the evening, and closing with the black panther under the cover of night.

Available from 24 October across all HABIB showrooms, the collection highlights the jeweller’s ongoing efforts to merge craftsmanship with purpose. Each gold wafer serves as both a collector’s item and a reminder of the importance of wildlife preservation in Malaysia.

In conjunction with the launch, HABIB announced a RM100,000 donation to Zoo Negara, supporting the care and protection of animals at the national zoo. The funds will go towards the adoption of three white rhinoceroses—Ell, Ella and Eli—part of the brand’s continued commitment to safeguard endangered species.

This initiative builds on HABIB’s earlier “Save our animals” campaign launched in 2020, which also supported Zoo Negara’s conservation programmes. “Our gold wafer collection celebrates the beauty and strength of animals in their natural habitats,” said Meer Habib, executive chairman of HABIB Group. “By supporting Zoo Negara and adopting the white rhinoceros, we are reaffirming our pledge to protect these animals and inspire others to join us in preserving our natural environment for generations to come.”

The launch coincides with HABIB’s nationwide 'Pesta emas' ('Gold fest') campaign, further cementing the jeweller’s reputation for combining artistry, heritage, and social responsibility. For collectors and wildlife advocates alike, the latest gold wafer series offers not only a stunning keepsake but also a meaningful way to contribute to Malaysia’s conservation efforts.

Last July, Zoo Negara and HABIB teamed up for another release, which features Oyen the cat and the capybaras he befriended during lockdown, captures a real-life story that touched millions of Malaysians. The special edition not only celebrated their unique friendship but also HABIB’s mission to support Zoo Negara through meaningful and heartfelt designs.

For HABIB, collaborations like this aren’t just marketing plays, they’re a form of storytelling. “In today’s fast-evolving consumer landscape, especially among the younger generation, there’s a growing appreciation for brands that stand for something meaningful,” Meer Habib told A+M.
