GWM Malaysia fuses culture and innovation to power 10-foot wau

GWM Malaysia marked this year’s Malaysia Day with a bold cultural celebration that blended heritage and innovation under its "Geng wakil Malaysia" campaign.
The campaign, designed to reflect unique Malaysian passions, positioned different GWM models alongside lifestyle themes — from food and fashion to coffee culture, adventure, and heritage. Each instalment showcased how GWM vehicles integrate with everyday passions, culminating in a finale titled "Geng warisan Malaysia" ("Malaysia heritage gang").

In this closing chapter, the GWM TANK 300 was put to the test at Pantai Bagan Lalang, where it powered a 10-foot wau (traditional kite) into the sky. The feat symbolised strength and resilience while paying tribute to Malaysia’s heritage, embodying the values of pride, intricacy, and cultural endurance.
“By lifting the wau into the sky with the GWM TANK 300, our goal was not just to set a record, but to uplift tradition while embracing innovation,” said Lim Ee Lenn, marketing director of GWM Malaysia. “This groundbreaking moment is a powerful testament to blending culture and innovation as well as the GWM TANK 300’s resilience and toughness — values that resonate with every Malaysian.”
The "Geng wakil Malaysia" series featured five videos, each pairing a GWM model with a distinct Malaysian passion. "Geng where makan" ("Where to eat gang") highlighted the HAVAL H6 HEV for foodies on their culinary hunts, while "Geng wajib melaram" ("Fashionable gang") showcased the ORA Good Cat as the stylish companion for fashion lovers.
"Geng waktu mengopi" ("Coffee culture gang") positioned the sporty ORA 07 as the perfect ride for coffee catch-ups, and "Geng weekend mengembara" ("Weekend adventure gang") presented the TANK 500 as the go-to SUV for outdoor adventures. The series concluded with "Geng warisan Malaysia" ("Malaysian heritage gang"), where the TANK 300 symbolised strength and tradition in a cultural tribute.
The campaign’s finale not only reinforced the TANK 300’s toughness but also delivered a cultural statement that connected with national pride. The wau-pulling stunt was later recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the largest airborne wau pulled by a four-wheel drive.
Earlier this month, GWM Malaysia put its Haval H6 HEV to the ultimate endurance test in the "Fuel endurance ultimate challenge" campaign, created together with MBCS, turning what could have been a routine automotive ad into a real-time spectacle, showcasing the H6’s extraordinary fuel efficiency over 24 hours. The campaign took place on the Temiang–Pantai Highway in Negeri Sembilan, where the SUV circled continuously for 1,013KM. Unlike traditional automotive commercials, the entire challenge was shot, edited, and uploaded live, capturing every moment of the endurance run.
