Google Hong Kong unveils the city's Year in Search 2020

Yesterday, we featured the top searches of YouTube. Today, it's time for Google Hong Kong. This year, pandemic-related headlines and stay-home guides made it to the list, in addition to the current affairs, people, and social events in Hong Kong and internationally.

In 2020, COVID-19 ranked first among the top trending local headlines, and also made the top trending keywords and top trending international headlines. Other trending keywords included masks, confirmed cases, and anti-epidemic and relief measures like the limit on public gatherings, the Universal Community Testing Programme launched by the Hong Kong government, and the Employment Support Scheme. While staying at home, people also searched for online shopping platform HKTVmall, as well as the video conferencing tool Zoom.

This year, Hongkongers closely followed the US Election, which ranked first among the top trending keywords and top international headlines, as well as news about US president Donald Trump and president-elect of the US Joe Biden, on the top trending people in the current affairs (international) list.
