Gojek suspends 120 drivers for using modified app

Gojek will be suspending 120 drivers for using modified app, confirmed a Gojek spokesperson in a statement to Marketing Interactive. The range of punishment could be from a day-long suspension to permanent one.

These apps, according to The Straits Times and The New Paper (TNP), asked for drivers to dish out SG$300 to bypass verification, fake their location, and cancel jobs without penalty. In some cases, it was also reportedly said to allow for viewing of private customer information. However TNP said that the apps did not eventually help increase the number of jobs or prevent dips in acceptance rates if drivers cancelled bookings, as it initially claimed. The effect was said to be a mere cosmetic one.

The article added that the “modified apps appear to be peddled by syndicates in Southeast Asia, which advertise them using fake videos appearing to show that they work”.

In a statement to Marketing Interactive, the spokesperson from Gojek added that the use of the modified apps is in direct violation of its driver services agreement and community guidelines. “We will continue to take swift action against any driver-partner found to use such apps. To date, we have taken action against some 120 driver-partners, which includes warnings and suspensions.”

Lien Choong Luen, GM of Gojek Singapore, said: “Simply put: mod apps don’t deliver on their claims. But what’s most concerning is that they pose a serious security risk to users. We urge our driver-partners to join us in upholding a safe and honest Gojek community.”
