Globe's Hapag Movement turns to art to combat hunger in the Philippines

Globe is tapping the local art scene to support its hunger alleviation campaign, the Hapag Movement. In partnership with Provenance Art Gallery, the company hosted a private vernissage and silent auction in Manila, with proceeds helping fund sustainable feeding and livelihood programmes across the Philippines.

The auction showcases works by some of the Philippines’ most celebrated visual artists - Andres Barrioquinto, Jayson Cortez, Max Balatbat, Martin Honasan, Jason Montinola, and Raffy Napay. Fifty percent of proceeds from the auction were earmarked for the Hapag Movement, while the remaining proceeds directly supported the participating artists.

“This is more than a showcase of art - it is a statement of purpose,” said Globe CMO Roche Vandenberghe (pictured, far right). “We are deeply grateful to our customers and partners who helped transform an evening of cultural appreciation into meaningful support for communities experiencing hunger.”

Barrioquinto’s contributions stood out with his signature style that fuses surrealism, pop culture, and nature. Drawing influence from Japanese ukiyo-e and Baroque art traditions, his hyperrealistic portraits reveal layered narratives rendered in oil and acrylic.

Adding further depth to the evening was a curator’s talk by Stephanie Frondoso, complemented by light fare from Cibo and bespoke Globe tokens for attendees. The gathering drew a blend of art patrons, social advocates, and business leaders.

Globe’s partnership with Provenance is part of its broader push to create human-centred experiences that drive long-term impact. The exhibit, now open to the public until August 2025, serves as a continuing platform for conversation, connection, and contribution.

Recently, Globe also donated one million pesos (US$17,700) worth of rice through the Hapag Movement, in partnership with Ayala Foundation, to support the Cebu Provincial Government’s Sugbo School Feeding Programme. The initiative aims to provide hot meals to 890,000 public school students across the province, helping address undernutrition and learning challenges among Filipino children.

Globe also launched the #GoForIt Student Fest 2025, bringing together over 250 student leaders aged 18 to 23 from across the Philippines. Held at the Power Mac Center Black Box Theatre in Makati, the event encouraged youth to pursue their dreams boldly, while highlighting the role of technology, digital literacy, and community building in shaping their future.

At the same time, Globe continues to strengthen its customer-focused services with the launch of a new micro shop in Boracay. Located at Station 3’s eMall, the store offers digital solutions for locals and tourists, backed by substantial infrastructure investments - including over 40 upgraded cell sites and more than 30 outdoor 5G locations - underscoring Globe’s dual focus on social impact and digital inclusion.
