Genting MY unveils logo for new theme park slated to open in Q2

Resorts World Genting has unveiled the logo of its new theme park Genting SkyWorlds which is slated to open in the second quarter of this year. The logo features amalgamation of clouds, five stars, and the facade of Genting SkyWorlds. Like a jewel on a pillowy crown, the clouds in the logo are symbolic of the theme park’s surroundings and its "elevated offering" to visitors.

The five stars represent the premium experience offered that Genting SkyWorlds aims to offer and the brand’s five core values of hard work, honesty, harmony, loyalty and compassion. Meanwhile, the colours and facade of Genting SkyWorlds in the logo are bright and inspiring, complementing the journey into a world of fantasy.

Media outlets including The Star and The Edge Markets reported that Genting Malaysia spent US$800 million on the theme park. Genting SkyWorlds is part of a strategic collaboration with 20th Century Studios and will incorporate the latter's brands and intellectual properties (IPs) across its rides and attractions. The IPs include Ice Age, Night at the Museum and Planet of the Apes, among others.

Genting SkyWorlds has nine movie and adventure-inspired worlds - Eagle Mountain, Central Park, Liberty Lane, Robots Rivet Town, Andromeda Base, Ice Age, Studio Plaza, Epic and Rio. Each attraction has themed retail, dining, and entertainment experiences to offer a holistic experience for families. A+M has reached out to Genting Malaysia for additional information.

Lee Thiam Kit, head of business operations and strategies at Resorts World Genting, said Genting SkyWorlds is the result of many years of hard work by dedicated team members and partners from worldwide. "We are almost ready. We are putting the finishing touches to this amazing theme park, which we believe to be Southeast Asia’s most anticipated theme park. We believe we will deliver the very best experience to our guests throughout this journey," Lee said.

In 2019, 20th Century Studios (then known as 21st Century Fox prior to the rebrand last year) granted Genting Malaysia a licence to use certain IPs in the upcoming outdoor theme park in a settlement over a dispute which started in November 2018. Initially intended to bear the Fox brand, the theme park has since been renamed. A Bursa filing in 2019 said that both parties have agreed to "fully resolving their disputes" against each other and to "dismiss all claims and counterclaims" between them. In 2018, Genting Malaysia sued 21st Century Fox and The Walt Disney Company for over US$1 billion for abandoning the contract signed in 2013 to construct the world’s first Fox-branded theme park named Fox World.
