FTLife Insurance has appointed Derek Ip (pictured) as new chief digital and technology officer. Ip will be reporting to Ip Man Kit, CEO of FTLife.

Within his new position, Ip will be responsible for leading technology, digital and analytics strategy to support the business development of FTLife. He'll also drive the development of our emerging digital platforms and ecosystem business.

Ip has extensive experience in insurtech as well as technology and operations transformation in the insurance industry. Prior to the position, he spent two years as head of business transformation at AIA.

Ip said: “I feel honoured to take up this new responsibility to lead digital and technology in FTLife. Working with fellow artisans and leveraging New World Group’s diverse ecosystem, we are committed to making insurance simpler, easier and more accessible to all. I am excited to see limitless opportunities ahead to bring innovations and create exceptional experience for our customers.”

Ip Man Kit, CEO of FTLife, said: “Technology is a key enabler and driver of our growing business.  It also plays an important role in linking up FTLife with New World Group’s diverse ecosystem.  In order to bring technology innovation to deliver business value, we need an experienced leader to drive the effective adoption of technology, digital and analytics going forward.”

Previously in September, FTLife Insurance has appointed Ip Man Kit as its new chief executive officer, succeeding Joe Cheng, who was promoted to CEO last November. Moving forward, Cheng will be redesigned as non-executive vice chairman and non-executive director of FTLife.

With over 30 years of experience in the life insurance industry, Ip has taken many senior management roles in both Hong Kong and mainland China, covering various areas including information technology, operations, project management, transformation, as well as health and wellness business development. He has also played an active role in the medical insurance reform and the digitalisation development.
