From Morticia to Mak Tisha: Netflix MY puts a Malaysian spin on the Addams Family
share on
Netflix Malaysia has given the beloved gothic clan a local twist, transforming the iconic Addams Family into a cheeky Malay version dubbed the “Adam’s Family,” inspired by the streaming giant’s hit series Wednesday.
The short film stars Malaysia’s queen of local horror, Maya Karin, as ‘Mak Tisha’, a character who blends beauty with a hint of spookiness. She is paired with her devoted husband Tok Gomeh, played by Adi Afendi. In a nod to Morticia and Gomez of the Addams family, the couple is later seen romantically dancing across the living room.
Joining the quirky couple are Grandmama and Ali. Ali, portrayed by internet personality Bento, channels Pugsley’s look with his striped shirt, while Bento’s real-life grandmother steps into the role of Grandmama. Together, they show viewers how to make an alarm, which turns out to trigger a spectacular and explosive fireworks display.

No family is complete without Rabu, the local twist on Wednesday, brought to life by Puteri Balqis. Sporting the iconic pigtails, Rabu lovingly tends to her collection of “Rabubu” dolls, adding a culturally relevant touch to the beloved character.
The film culminates with the Adam’s family gathering in their living room to watch the second season of Wednesday on TV.
This playful short film follows Netflix’s recent immersive fan activation, “Nevermore Academy: Malaysia campus”, which transformed Sunway Pyramid into the gothic boarding school featured in Wednesday.
Located at the LG2 Blue Concourse, the activation invited both “Outcasts” and “Normies” to experience orientation at the fictional academy through themed rooms and cryptic activities.
True to Netflix’s layered fan service, hidden surprises awaited visitors beyond the main event space, including cheeky hints that “a certain body part” might be wandering around Klang Valley. Not long after, fan-favourite character Thing is seen roaming through the streets of Klang Valley in a larger-than-life on-ground activation.
