Hundreds of Hongkongers have flocked to Fortnum & Mason's local store for discounted deals ahead of its closure on 25 January. The brand will no longer operate standalone stores in the city, though its products will remain available at Lane Crawford, Hong Kong International Airport, and online.

The store announced its closure on its official Instagram account, with a caption saying: "We want to share that we have taken the decision to close our store and restaurant in K11 MUSEA on 25 January 2026. We would like to express our deepest thanks to you our customers for your custom over the years. This isn't a final goodbye as you can find us at Lane Crawford, Hong Kong International Airport, and online."

The post prompted many netizens to express their sadness, with some saying they would miss the brand, MARKETING-INTERACTIVE confirmed.

The move has triggered consumers to snap up good deals at the store over the past weekend, forcing staff to close the queue two hours after opening, according to the South China Morning Post.

Founded in London's Piccadilly in 1707, the British department store made a splash when it first entered Hong Kong in November 2019. The 7,000 sq ft outlet at K11 MUSEA features a bar, restaurant and tea salon.

After just over six years in operation, Fortnum & Mason's Hong Kong store will cease operations on 25 January. Customers can still purchase Fortnum & Mason products at Lane Crawford, Hong Kong International Airport, or via the brand's online store.

In fact, Hong Kong's retail scene has been struggling, with a number of shops closing in recent years. Early this month, Hongkongers flocked to local department store Sincere (先施百貨) in Sham Shui Po for last-day bargains as it closed its doors on 4 January. With the closure of its Sham Shui Po branch, Sincere is now down to two remaining physical stores in Mong Kok and Central, alongside its commerce presence.

Back in November, the world's first Monopoly-themed attraction, Monopoly Dreams Hong Kong (香港大富翁夢想世界), closed, marking its final move from The Peak. Announced on its Instagram and Facebook pages, Monopoly Dreams Hong Kong said that it had concluded its mission after a six-year journey.
