Former KFC Asia CMO Vipul Chawla takes group CEO role at NTUC FairPrice

FairPrice Group has appointed Vipul Chawla (pictured) as group CEO, effective 5 April 2022. The appointment comes as NTUC Enterprise and FairPrice Group look to further strengthen its core, and talents in its management team. According to NTUC, Chawla's international experience will help FPG drive its ambitions to build an omni-channel business with a superior customer experience.

Chawla has held leadership roles in Fortune 500 companies in the FMCG and food services industries. He was previously with Yum! Brands for over a decade, where he most recently served as the president of Pizza Hut International, based in the US. In that role, he oversaw global markets spanning more than 100 countries with a revenue of US$7.5 billion and 345,000 system-wide employees. He was responsible for driving the brand strategy and performance of Pizza Hut’s international business outside the US.

Prior to that, Chawla served as managing director of Pizza Hut APAC where he led Pizza Hut’s largest business outside the US in terms of units, spanning nearly 5,000 franchise restaurants across 16 markets. He previously served as general manager of Pizza Hut Asia as well as CMO of KFC Asia, where he elevated KFC’s brand positioning and accelerated its growth across the region.

Chawla said that he is humbled and honoured to join FairPrice Group and be given the opportunity to participate in the growth and transformation journey. "I am excited to build on the great work done by this world class leadership team, and such a visionary board! I hope my experience will enable me to support FPG to reach its full potential, and at the same time, give back to the community as we continue to uphold our social mission, which I have personally found hugely inspiring," he added.

At the same time, Seah Kian Peng, who currently helms the dual roles of group CEO, NTUC Enterprise and Group CEO, FairPrice Group, has been appointed as deputy chairman, FairPrice Group and chairman, FairPrice Foundation, effective 5 April 2022 as well. 

Meanwhile, NTUC Enterprise and FairPrice Group said in a joint statement that Seah served with dedication and distinction in both portfolios, facilitating the transformation of NE’s social enterprises amidst the challenges of disruption, and accelerating FairPrice’s physical stores and online retail growth supported by a robust supply chain strategy, despite the heavy responsibilities.
