Food delivery company Foodpanda Hong Kong has expanded outside of food delivery into groceries, officially launching Pandamart, an on-demand delivery service offering a wide variety of products.

The new arm was soft-launched in November 2019 and is already collaborating with around 1,000 shops with 14,000 items sold. Notable partners include convenience chain Circle K, snack store Okashi Land, craft beer manufacturer Heroes Beer, and kitchenware store, I Love Kitchen.

“Pandamart aims to redefine the shopping experience in Hong Kong by delivering our customers whatever they want and need in as fast as 15 minutes. With increasing customer occasions to order products online, we hope Pandamart will be the solution for anything and anytime they want," said Jeremy Wong , head of Pandamart, Hong Kong.

Speaking of the expectations, Wong said the company hoped to collaborate with more than 3,000 shops and over 500 supermarkets and pharmacies this year with more than 550,000 items hoped to be sold. Other goals include round-the-clock delivery services across 18 districts in Hong Kong, while maintaining an average delivery time of 15 minutes.

"This move fulfils the growing needs of both our current customers and new customers for greater convenience and variety beyond just food, and reliable delivery time across Hong Kong. Over 76% of people in Hong Kong are forecast to have used online delivery within 2020. We would like all of them to try Foodpanda for either groceries or food delivery," said Arun Makhija, CEO of Foodpanda Hong Kong.

Since its soft launch three months ago, daily groceries, convenience items, and bakery products have been the most popular categories. The most popular items ordered have been snacks, canned beer, and bottled water.

As for the business of food delivery, Foodpanda aims to increase its number of partner restaurants from the current figure of 7,000 to 12,000 this year, and raise its active user count by 100%. The platform also hopes that in 2020 it will increase its fleet size from 4,000 to 8,000.
