Firefly Airlines has rolled out a witty promotion offering RM23 discount, after AirAsia recently started collecting an additional RM23 in Passenger Service Charge levied by Malaysia Airports Holdings for flight bookings “under protest“.Stating “because we don’t like ticking you off” in the ad, Firefly rallies fans to “keep calm” about the increased flight prices as it had brought it down through the promotion. The post on its Facebook page has received near to 160 reactions in four days. The promotion ran over the weekend from 8 August to 12 August. In a press statement, Firefly Airlines VP of marketing & communications, Izra Izzuddin said people is key to the company and the move aims to encourage consumers to book in advance with the airline. “Firefly is always current and updated with whatever that we do, so our team is always on the go to react to market situations fast to ensure we are constantly in people’s mind,” she said.Firefly has known for its wacky marketing moves, surprising customers with various mystery gifts onboard through its “Is Your Seat the Lucky One?” campaign, and urging travellers to get into a long-term relationship with the airline in “Dump your ex” campaign. However in July 2016, a bid to promote its new beach vacation deals went wrong with some netizens deeming the “Hey B*#%H. I’m Here!” campaign as misogynistic and degrading.
