Ex-Admen Launch Weekly Paper

Singapore - Former agency professionals have joined hands to establish a new mass circulation leisure and entertainment weekly newspaper.

Titled the Weekender, the new publication is founded by Frank Young (pictured), editorial director and CEO, and David Phey, chief operating officer, both of whom have held various roles in the advertising industry.

Young was previously the managing director and executive creative director at Crush Advertising, while Phey was the business group director at Dentsu.

To be published by the Weekender Group, the publication is set to launch from October this year with plans to be audited in due course.

Weekender will have a broad advertising focus being a leisure and entertainment weekly paper, Phey said.

The publication will be a free broadsheet distributed across Singapore, positioning itself as a "weekend happiness" paper. Editorial content will aim to provide readers information with how to spend the weekend, including events, sports and outdoor activity, dining, shopping, family, and home entertainment.

James Yip, former CEO of MediaCorp Radio and head of integrated sales and trade marketing, has joined the team as honorary advisor.

"Weekender is about weekend happiness, and we want to help our readers make the most of the most important days of their week by giving them information and ideas on things to do, see, try and experience," Young said.
