For the tenth year, Advertising + Marketing magazine proudly recognised and rewarded Malaysia’s top-performing agencies at the Agency of the Year Awards. There was huge competition vying for the top accolades but Entropia swept the board, claiming all four overall titles: Overall Creative Ideas MARKie, Overall Media Usage MARKie, Overall Local Hero of the Year and Overall Agency of the Year.

The Agency of the Year Awards, and co-located MARKies Awards, were held in Kuala Lumpur on the 9 May and saw more than 560 of the industry’s finest attend the Sheraton Petaling Jaya Hotel to network, celebrate and discover who would walk away with this year’s crowns. The awards celebrated their most innovative, creative and effective campaigns through the coveted MARKies categories.

As ever, the awards were judged by a completely independent panel of senior, client-side marketers, not only safeguarding impartiality for the results but also allowing agencies to understand what clients are looking for and potentially impressing future clientele.

With a record number of submissions, and close to 50% of entries coming from locally-owned and managed agencies, the awards reflected a growing confidence in the local agency scene. The quality of submissions was especially high this year, with judges commenting on the higher standards set for the industry as the main reason why so many entries were close contenders.

The judges were impressed by Blanc by Entropia, Noir by Entropia and Sentient by Entropia, who together claimed the overall title for their wins in the Creative Ideas categories, for their outstanding work with clients Etika, Nippon Paint and Pos Malaysia. Blanc by Entropia secured Gold in Most Creative – TV / Video Advertising and Bronze in Most Creative – Social Media; Noir by Entropia took Gold in Most Creative – Print and Most Creative – Radio, Silver in Most Creative – Out-of-Home and Bronze in Most Creative – Radio again; while Sentient held Entropia’s leading position with a Silver win in the Most Creative – Business Event category for their ‘Nippon Paint Digital Expo’.

Entropia placed ahead of Naga DDB Tribal who took home a notable 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze, and FCB Group Malaysia who bagged a healthy 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze titles, under the creative ideas categories.

For the media usage categories under the MARKies, Entropia’s partnerships with Boost, Etika and Pos Malaysia continued to help them climb the ladder to overall success with 4 Gold, 3 Silver and 4 Bronze wins in the Media Usage categories. Hot on its heels were FCB Group Malaysia with 2 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze trophies; followed closely behind by BPN (IPG Mediabrands) and GO Communications who tied in third place with 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze Media Usage title each

Entropia’s ‘Pepsi Black Presents the Future of Newspaper’, ‘A Journey Through Time: Malaysia’s 1st VR 360 Interactive Digital Film’ and ‘Wonda: Proud Supporters of the World Cup Unsung Heroes’ campaigns were just a few that stood out to the judges for their creativity and innovative use of media.

Continuing its astounding success, Entropia nabbed the Overall Local Hero of the Year and Overall Agency of the Year following their accumulation of 4 Gold, 1 Silver and 4 Local Hero trophies in the Creative Agency of the Year, Digital Agency of the Year, Media Agency of the Year, Programmatic Agency of the Year and Social Media Marketing Agency of the Year categories. They were closely followed by Kingdom Digital Solutions, Leo Burnett Group and FCB Group Malaysia.

Congratulations to all of our finalists and winners at this year’s exciting awards ceremony!
