EMC: Social media should aid sales

The next step for social media is selling, according to EMC’s first global chief marketing officer Jeremy Burton.

In an interview to Marketing, Burton talks about the company’s B2B marketing strategies on social media.

He says that while social media has traditionally been about creating buzz, the opportunities for placing it right in the middle of the sales cycle is inevitable.

“Social media will be used to sell and get the word out,” he said.

Burton, who joined the company in March last year, is also executive vice president at EMC Corporation and is the first CMO the company has had in a long time as it diversifies and aims to focus on cloud computing.

He also talks about EMC’s Asia Pacific marketing plans going ahead and its desire to leverage the growth of boutique agencies.
