Disney takes over Indonesia's school holidays with Stitch Summer Invasion at PIK 2

Disney Indonesia is bringing a splash of Hawaiian chaos to Jakarta's shores - or at least to the artificial beachfront of Land's End, PIK 2 - with an immersive event titled Stitch Summer Invasion. Running from 15 May to 30 June 2025, the experience is timed to hit peak school holiday crowds and build anticipation ahead of the 21 May theatrical release of Lilo & Stitch's live-action adaptation.
Set against the playful beach backdrop of the fictional Kokaua Town, the event aims to summon the same blend of innocence and rebellion that made Stitch a household name in the early 2000s. First introduced in the 2002 animated classic, the story of a lonely Hawaiian girl and her extraterrestrial companion became a touchstone for Disney fans who favoured offbeat humour over classic fairytales.
With this initiative, Disney is making a calculated bet: that Gen Z and young millennial nostalgia - paired with Instagrammable setups, cross-brand collaborations, and limited-edition drops - can transform a beloved alien into a retail and cultural phenomenon once more.

"Stitch Summer Invasion aims to immerse fans in Stitch's joy and mischief, through new collaborations that highlight his fun yet mischievous nature. We recognise that Gen Z often seeks creative ways to express their love for the characters they adore," said Tan Wee, director of brand commercialisation at Disney Indonesia, as quoted by Antara.
The event space is anything but subtle. A six-metre-tall statue of Stitch looms large in the live-action zone, surrounded by immersive sets and selfie-friendly spots such as the Land's End Lighthouse. For fans, the real draw is the rare meet-and-greet opportunity with Stitch himself, scheduled from 16 to 18 May - complete with hugs, photo opportunities, and an emotional shot of nostalgia.
Thematic booths selling Stitch-branded merchandise - from fashion to homeware - round out the commercial strategy. Over 20 brand collaborations are involved, underscoring the character's retail flexibility and enduring appeal.
PIK 2 - short for Pantai Indah Kapuk 2 - is a sprawling coastal development spanning North Jakarta and Tangerang, Indonesia. Positioned as an upscale extension of the original Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area, it blends residential, commercial, and recreational zones into a lifestyle-driven destination.
Built on reclaimed land, PIK 2 boasts a man-made beachfront, luxury housing clusters, culinary districts, and retail promenades. Curated spaces such as Land's End - a beach-themed park and event venue - alongside global retail tenants have become a weekend escape for Jakarta's urban crowd without the need to leave the city.
Meanwhile, across town in Bekasi, OH!SOME's Grand Kota Bintang store is playing host to its own Stitch spectacle. The storefront is currently topped with a cheeky Stitch installation, serving as both a photo magnet and a preview of OH!SOME's exclusive Stitch Seaside-Inspired Collection. The capsule blends practical holiday gear with playful design - think bento boxes, jellyfish-plush Stitch toys, and scented candles that double as aesthetic decor.
"We're thrilled to bring this exclusive collection to our customers," shared an OH!SOME representative. "At OH!SOME, we're all about spreading joy and creating meaningful moments. Whether through our products or interactive events, we aim to be a destination for happy memories."
In addition to themed accessories and plush collectibles, OH!SOME is offering in-store activations such as lucky draws and free Stitch face-painting sessions. The activation builds on the success of a January Winnie the Pooh collection, marking a deliberate push toward seasonal, emotionally resonant collaborations.
