Southeast Asian digital entertainment firm POPS is expanding into Indonesia and has appointed Zico Kemala Batin as country manager to spearhead its operational, strategic development and growth in the country. WIth over 13 years of experience, Batin (pictured left) has helped scale startups and major corporate enterprises including Universal Music Group, Tencent Mobility and Alibaba.

He has also participated in developing, launching, and monetising Joox in Indonesia as well as Alibaba’s acquisition and integration of UCWeb and its extensive media across the country. POPS expects to grow quickly and have a big impact on the market under his leadership.

POPS Indonesia will echo a similar model of talent recruitment from its network in other countries across Southeast Asia, bringing its audience and brand partners content solutions and entertainment. POPS Indonesia’s video-on-demand streaming service, POPS App, will go live early 2021, offering a new interactive digital experience fueled by hyper-local entertainment and fresh POPS originals ranging from music, animation, live action and esports content. The company is present in Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore and is over 212 million subscribers.

Batin said the Indonesian market is a battlefield for POPS expansion in Southeast Asia and he is honoured and excited to be leading the charge as he feels now is the perfect time. "With POPS empowering grassroots strategy, emphasis on strong technology, and quality content, I’m confident POPS will be the next big thing in Indonesian market," he added.

Bani Tan (pictured left), regional operations director, said with huge successes across Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore, the company is excited to now jump into the Indonesian market and meet the challenge head-on. "With the amazing help and experience of Batin, our proven strategy of ‘thinking globally while acting hyper-locally’, and the resulting quality content that is both relevant and localized to each community, we believe that POPS Indonesia will quickly become yet another POPS success," Tan said.

Founder and CEO Esther Nguyen (pictured right) added that the company strongly feels that POPS Indonesia will be a great success for the platform. "With Batin's impressive and extensive experience and network, we are confident he will be able to carry out the POPS vision in Indonesia. We believe POPS Indonesia will be just as big as it has been across Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore. We are so excited to be expanding into the new market and to see what the future holds for POPS Indonesia," she said.
