Deliveroo Hong Kong has unveiled the "Match for good" initiative in partnership with St. James’ Settlement CharityToday, a digital search and application system.
The "Match for good" initiative marks another milestone in Deliveroo's continued commitment to supporting Hong Kong's elderly community.
Starting from 13 January, this initiative aims to tackle food insecurity by leveraging the power of community support, especially during traditional festive moments such as Lunar New Year, a time to gather with family, sharing, and giving.
Over the next 10 months, for every purchase of selected groceries on Deliveroo Hop, Deliveroo will match the purchase and donate equivalent items to the elderly in need.
At the end of the campaign, dedicated volunteers from Deliveroo will pack all the donation of goods and deliver them to the elderly, bringing warmth and care to them, just as Deliveroo ensures groceries arrive at the doorsteps of their customers.
Customers can easily participate in this meaningful initiative as the selected products will be noticeable while they purchase groceries at Deliveroo’s four Hop sites in Central, Tuen Mun, Kwun Tong and Tsim Sha Tsui via Deliveroo app.
To help consumers identify the items under the initiative, groceries are marked with St. James' Settlement CharityToday icons at the bottom right corner of the product image with a brief description of the initiative when selected.
For customers who wish to purchase all the groceries under the initiative, a dedicated "Deliveroo Full Life" carousel will be their go-to section on the platform. This user-friendly interface ensures that customers can identify and select products that support this charitable cause, turning everyday grocery shopping into an act of giving.
The selected groceries include Del Monte Sweet Corn Cream Style, Pearl River Bridge Fried Dace With Salted Black Beans, Quaker Instant Oatmeal Foil, Sau Tao Shanghai Noodle, Kangaroo Brand Low Gi Rice, and Sakamoto Hotarubijin Rice, which are thoughtfully chosen for as they are shelf-stable daily necessities that can be easily stored and prepared, and are most needed for the elderly.
From ready-to-eat staples to versatile cooking ingredients that can be transformed into nutritious meals, these groceries ensure families receive not just food, but also the comfort of familiar tastes and traditions.
In fact, the continued partnership between Deliveroo and St. James’ Settlement CharityToday to tackle the food insecurity in the elderly community is evidenced by the ongoing "Smile for Food" Programme. Through Deliveroo's in-app-round-up feature during checkout, customers can choose to round up their total bill or make additional donations to support elderly beneficiaries.
Nick Price, general manager of Deliveroo Hong Kong, said, “Tackling food insecurity is something we always hold close to our hearts while conducting our business, and we believe that everyone has the right to access nutritious meals. We are thrilled to launch the 'Match for good' initiative with the staunch support from St. James’ Settlement CharityToday.”
“With this initiative, we hope to make a meaningful impact and real difference to the needy during this festive season of warmth and a sense of community. We encourage our customers to spread warmth and joy to families in need as we celebrate Lunar New Year together, and to continue supporting this meaningful initiative throughout the year,” he added.
Alison Ho, senior service manager (corporate venture - partnership & alliances) at St. James’ Settlement said, “We are pleased to go further with Deliveroo in tackling food insecurity through diversified programmes. The 'Match for good' initiative allows us to make a difference in the lives of people in vulnerable communities. Partnering with Deliveroo means a lot to us, 'Match for good' engages their customers in this meaningful event to spread the love and care they are feeling in the upcoming Lunar New Year to the vulnerable families in Hong Kong.”
Deliveroo and St. James’ Settlement CharityToday have been dedicating efforts to fostering a sense of belonging in the elderly community. Last year, they organised a series of Digital Inclusion Workshop for the Elderly to bridge the digital divide among the senior community.
