Cisco has appointed Mark Phibbs (pictured) as its VP of marketing and communications for Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ). He will be responsible for the Cisco marketing team across 18 countries in APJ as the company expands from its core as a networking technology provider to a supplier with solutions in security, collaboration, data centre, cloud and Internet of Things (IoT).
Phibbs will report to Karen Walker, senior VP and CMO at Cisco. The role was previously held by Bastiaan Toeset, who was in a dual role as VP of both commercial and marketing and communications in APJ.
Before joining Cisco, Phibbs was the VP of marketing, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at Adobe for around four years. He played an integral role in helping Adobe move to Software as a Service and cloud-based solutions. Prior to the role, he was senior director of global channel marketing at Adobe for over two years and senior director marketing, Asia Pacific for more than eight years. Phibbs was also the CEO of Microsoft Hong Kong and marketing director, Australia and New Zealand at IBM. He has more than 25 years of international experience in the IT industry.
“As a leading global technology company, Cisco is well-placed to reinvent the way data is collected, protected and analysed. So it only makes sense that our marketing efforts follow suit, and focus on delighting customers through responsive, real-time, personalised messages and experiences that add value whenever they choose to engage with us. I’m excited to have been invited to be part of this journey, and I look forward to leading a modern marketing team and helping to further grow the Cisco brand,” said Phibbs.
“We’re delighted to be welcoming Mark to the Cisco team. His extensive background in digital disruption and improving the customer experience will be a great asset as we develop new initiatives to engage and inspire audiences, old and new," Walker said.
