China's annual Spring Festival Gala, or Chunwan, is famously known as the most-watched television programme in the world. A variety show featuring music, dance and other performances, Chunwan entertains an audience of over a billion viewers worldwide to welcome in the new year.
Twelve months after COVID-19 brought the world to a standstill, all eyes will be on China, which has moved quickly toward recovery both economically and socially despite the ongoing global pandemic. And according to CGTN, this year's show will be a high-tech one, incorporating 5G, AI and 3D into the mix.
Enhancing this year's record number of dance performances, stage choreography will be broadcast in 8K Ultra HD video. Powered by 5G, AI+VR naked eye 3D technology will also be a part of the show to offer a "breakthrough experience" through creative production and editing, and be viewable for audiences whether they're tuned in via TV or mobile.
The 2021 Spring Festival Gala will air live 11 February and broadcast to over 170 countries including the US, Japan and South Africa.
