Celcom Axiata head of digital Jack Wong moves on from telco

Celcom Axiata’s head of digital and consumer brands, Jack Wong (pictured), is stepping down from his role after more than three years with the company, A+M understands. He first joined Celcom as head of brand advertising in 2016, according to his LinkedIn.

Prior to that, he was Astro’s assistant vice president of content marketing and senior brand manager at Permanis before it became known as Etika. Wong also has experience in the agency world, having worked at Ogilvy for more than four years.

A+M has reached out to Celcom for comment.

Celcom’s creative account is currently up for grabs, along with U Mobile‘s and TM‘s. A+M understands that this is part of the telco’s effort to search for strategic long-term partners that are knowledgeable about the dynamic of its brands and industry to further grow the brands and business. M&C Saatchi, the incumbent, is responsible for ads such as GUNA CELCOMAdik Beradik and the popular 5 Sekawan series.

According to the telco, its geo-targeted GUNA CELCOM ads generated 1.9 million video views with a view-through-rate of over 45%. The tailored videos convey a message that is “closer to home” for the viewers and allow Celcom to maximise reach.

Separately in April this year, it tied up with Huawei Technologies Malaysia to deploy Celcom’s 5G Innovation Hub at the Celcom headquarters, @celcom. This collaboration entails the realisation of a 5G Innovation Hub at Celcom Axiata’s Centre of Excellence.
