Cathay and HKYAA join forces to inspire aviation enthusiasts

Cathay has partnered with Hong Kong Youth Aviation Academy (HKYAA) to nurture the next generation of aviation enthusiasts with new initiatives, including AeroQuiz and the Cathay Inter-school Aviation Challenge Cup (CISACC).

This collaboration was born out of their shared values of being a positive force for the community, and Cathay’s ongoing commitment to promoting youth development in Hong Kong.

Developed by HKYAA and sponsored by Cathay, AeroQuiz is an interactive online platform designed to spark curiosity and deepen aviation knowledge through daily challenges.

Open to both schools and the general public, the platform runs from 28 June to 30 November 2025, with a dedicated school stream available from 28 June until 31 August 2025. Participants have a chance to win exciting prizes, including aviation-themed gifts, and experiences.

Top 16 performing secondary schools from AeroQuiz will qualify for the Cathay Inter-School Aviation Challenge Cup, which will be held on 13 December. This live competition will bring together Hong Kong’s brightest young minds for a series of aviation-themed challenges, with winning teams earning coveted prizes such as overseas aviation-focused trips, round-trip flight tickets within Asia, simulator experiences and more.

Complementing its flagship youth development programme, I Can Fly, these two additions reaffirm Cathay’s long-standing commitment to empowering youth and cultivating interest in the aviation industry.

Speaking at the launch event on Saturday, under secretary for home and youth affairs Clarence Leung said: “I am delighted to witness the official launch of AeroQuiz and the Cathay Inter-school Aviation Challenge Cup, jointly introduced by Cathay and the Hong Kong Youth Aviation Academy.”

“As a thoughtfully designed interactive platform, AeroQuiz features rich content including aviation history and theories, enabling young people to explore the world of aviation in a fun and engaging competition format. I particularly appreciate how Cathay has transformed complex aviation concepts into lively and accessible quiz questions, showcasing the industry's dedication and creativity in nurturing future aviation talent,” Leung added.

Cathay’s chief customer and commercial officer Lavinia Lau said: “At Cathay, we are deeply committed to inspiring Hong Kong’s youth to dream big and reach for the skies. Through AeroQuiz and the Cathay Inter-School Aviation Challenge Cup, we aim to make aviation education engaging, accessible and rewarding. These initiatives not only celebrate curiosity and a passion for learning, but also provide young participants with a springboard to future opportunities in the aviation industry. I look forward to seeing them spread their wings and fly high on this exciting journey.”

HKYAA’s captain Patrick Lau said: “At the Hong Kong Youth Aviation Academy, we share a common dream — to inspire and nurture the next generation of aviation professionals. Today, over 100 of our alumni have joined the aviation sector, and we firmly believe that even more will shine brightly in the years to come. Through initiatives like AeroQuiz, we’re expanding our reach to secondary school students, confident that planting the seeds of aviation early will help cultivate a rich and thriving future for the industry.”
