Malaysia - National Geographic Channel and Canon have launched the EOS Young Photographer Award contest in Malaysia targeted at young photographers across the region. The contest, themed "A Celebration of Colour", calls out to aspiring photographers aged 13 to 25 years in Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia to submit their best photographs under the theme "A Celebration of Colour."This marks the first year National Geographic Channel and Canon are launching the region-wide EOS Young Photographer Awards, having done a similar but smaller-scale photo contest and seminar last year in Singapore and Malaysia only.In launching the awards contest, two award-winning National Geographic photographers were brought down to help inspire and groom young budding Malaysian photographers. They are National Geographic wildlife photojournalist Joe Riis and National Geographic photographer Gabby Salazar.Following the launch last week, both photographers conducted interactive workshops for more than 100 budding student photographers to share their experiences and expertise in the field, as well as provide tips and tricks of photography.Anthony Yeap, territory head of FOX International Channels (FIC), said, "We have always been strong advocates of inspiring our viewers to pursue their dreams and passions through the content that we feature on our channels and by organising various initiatives. This award and workshop are a step forward in that direction."The awards contest is being promoted on Canon's Facebook page, FIC's social networks and through TVCs running across FIC's network.A microsite was created for submissions, which will be accepted till 3 June. The grand prize includes a Canon EOS 60D DSLR camera and an opportunity to attend an all-expenses paid trip to the United States to attend a National Geographic Photography Expeditions Workshop.
