Broadway Circuit closes Broadway Hollywood in Diamond Hill Hong Kong

Broadway Circuit has stopped the operation of its cinema Broadway Hollywood located in Diamond Hill, Hong Kong as its lease will expire in March.

The company announced the news on its Facebook account. The post reads, "Thank you for supporting Broadway Hollywood over the years! Due to the expiration of the lease in March, and all cinemas having to close amid the pandemic, we are sorry for not being able to say goodbye 'in light and shadow'. We look forward to seeing you again in other Broadway theaters in the future."

The post contains a picture with the sentence "See you and stay healthy."

The website of Broadway Circuit has also been updated. It reads, "Thank you for always coming to Broadway Hollywood! Due to the expiry of the lease in March, Broadway Hollywood will be closed. We look forward to seeing you again in other nearly Broadway Cinemas!"

Under the Hong Kong government's latest pandemic control measures, 15 types of specified premises to shut, including cinemas, bars and pubs, nightclubs, fitness centres, theme parks, museums, party rooms, beauty parlours, and swimming pools, to name a few. According to government measures, cinemas could re-open on 23 February earliest. But the government could extend the measures for another two weeks.

After the closure of Broadway Hollywood, there will be 13 cinemas operated by Broadway Circuit in Hong Kong.

Broadway Circuit is another victim of the pandemic. In March 2021, UA Cinemas closed its six remaining locations with immediate effect; it did not renew its lease at K11 MUSEA in February last year too. Founded in 1985, UA cinema said on 8 March 2021 that due to unavoidable and devastating pressure faced by our operators since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, it ceased business with immediate effect.
