Astro Malaysia Holdings has successfully secured the Premier League broadcast rights in Malaysia from seasons 2019/20 to 2021/22. All 380 matches will be live in HD on Astro TV and Astyro Go.
This comes shortly after it successfully secured broadcasting rights to the latest season of the UEFA Champions League, following negotiations that took “longer than expected”. Consumers had threatened to terminate their subscription if the deal did not go through.
Lee Choong Khay, chief of sports, Astro said it is pleased to continue its longstanding partnership with the Premier League to provide "unrivalled" coverage of the football league. "We hope to excite sports customers by broadcasting selected live matches of the new season in 4K UHD. We look forward to rollout our 4K UHD offerings to provide the most premium and immersive sports viewing experience," he said.
Meanwhile, Richard Scudamore, Premier League executive chairman said football fans in Malaysia are known for their passionate following of the Premier League and our clubs. "Astro does an excellent job making the competition available to them on a range of platforms and we are very pleased they will continue as our exclusive broadcast partner until the end of season 2021/22," he said.
