AirAsia's Tony Fernandes featured (again) in 'misleading sponsored content'

AirAsia has issued a statement saying that it is aware of "misleading sponsored content" on social media claiming its group CEO Tony Fernandes (pictured) to have launched Crypto Revolt, a new financial technology platform. The airline advised consumers to "disregard such hoax content" and refer to its official social media channels for latest news updates on the company. This is not the first time Fernandes has fallen prey to fake news. In March last year, screenshots of a CNN Tech article titled "Tony Fernandes leaves AirAsia, jumps on financial tech” circulated on social media, prompting AirAsia to issue a statement denying claims that he is resigning to enter the financial technology sector. Fernandes also denied the claims, tweeting that he had many scams on him and described this as “the best fake news”. In 2016, get-rich-quick schemes ads on social media allegedly showed Fernandes revealing his secret of making as much as US$300 (RM1240) per day from home. This also led to AirAsia issuing a statement stressing that Fernandes did not endorse those ads.
