SEGA's Sonic the Hedgehog is leaving Green Hill Zone and heading straight to the skies in a new collaboration with low-cost carrier AirAsia.

The collaboration sees planes featuring the popular Japanese video game and its characters including Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose and Shadow.

The news comes as the official Sonic the Hedgehog SEA page posted a statement announcing that "Sonic and AirAsia are teaming up".

It added that the collaboration will feature a "special AirAsia Airbus A330 plane featuring Sonic and friends". It will also start flying next month in October.

The official page added that more details will follow soon.

A+M has reached out to AirAsia for more information.

This isn't AirAsia only partnership in recent months. In August this year, the airline partnered with bubble tea brand Tealive and cafe chain Secret Recipe to unveil its inflight catering and food and beverage subsidiary, Santan.

The initiative, called "Club Zero", promotes lesser consumption of sugar, promotes healthier choices as well as signifies a new chapter in Santan’s commitment to offering delicious, health-conscious alternatives to AirAsia guests.

"Club Zero" also represents the culmination of Santan's ongoing efforts to align with the evolving health-conscious preferences of consumers.
