AirAsia is the title sponsor of Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) new junior league.
The AirAsia-BAM National Junior League was launched by the PM’s wife and BAM patron Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor at the association’s Hari Raya open house in Hilton Petaling Jaya on 15 July 2017. AirAsia executive chairman Datuk Kamarudin Meranun presented a mock cheque for RM1 million for one year’s sponsorship to BAM president Dato’ Sri Norza Zakaria, witnessed by the PM’s wife.
According to AirAsia, the AirAsia-BAM National Junior League aims to develop grassroots talent and will see thousands of promising under-18 badminton players from across Malaysia vie to be the best in the nation. Top performers in the league may be selected to enter BAM’s Akademi Badminton Malaysia or to represent the country at international tournaments.
“AirAsia has always believed in creating greater opportunities for grassroots participation in sports, and this new league will allow young Malaysians to gain valuable exposure and experience as we nurture the next generation of world badminton champion,” Meranun said.
“The launching of AirAsia-BAM National Junior League will usher in a new era in BAM’s effort to increase schoolchildren participation in general and the beginning of BAM’s revamp exercise,” Dato’ Sri Norza Zakaria, BAM president, said.
“ The AirAsia-National Junior League model will definitely generate greater interest and participation among more than 5,000 schoolchildren from about 1000 schools throughout Malaysia,” Zakaria added. Most recently, AirAsia also launched MyCorporate, a suite of products exclusively made with its business traveller in mind. The companies that sign up to MyCorporate will have access to convenient, easy-to-use online booking system and comprehensive reporting to keep track of corporate travelling expenses.
