Air Selangor is marking this year’s Deepavali with the release of "Demi Deepa" ("For Deepa"), an emotional short film that celebrates family, sacrifice, and the pursuit of dreams. The film continues the brand’s festive storytelling tradition under its "Happiness" ("Bahagia") campaign series, which aims to inspire Malaysians through messages of resilience and togetherness.
The seven-minute film follows Uncle Ganesan and his daughter Deepa as they navigate life’s challenges in pursuit of her dream of becoming a doctor. The story opens on a heartwarming note, showing Uncle Ganesan and his wife buying a new home and settling in as they start their family. As Deepa grows up, her parents support her ambition to study medicine, even if it means letting go of their longtime dream home.

Fast forward to the present day, and we see Uncle Ganesan standing in front of the house he once called his, filled with a sense of loss. The emotional twist comes when Deepa surprises him by buying the house back, bringing tears of joy to the reunited family. Inspired by the real-life journey of medical doctor and social media influencer Dr. Malar Santhi, the film underscores perseverance, family bonds, and emotional resilience.
Dr. Malar herself makes a cameo, while actor Amirul Affendy returns from Air Selangor’s previous festive films for Chinese New Year and Hari Raya. Through Demi Deepa, Air Selangor continues to tell uplifting stories that connect with everyday Malaysians, promoting values of hope, gratitude, and happiness.
The short film is now streaming on Air Selangor’s official website, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube channels.
Elina Baseri, head of corporate communications at Air Selangor, said the film serves as a reminder of both love and mental wellbeing. “We are honoured to share this inspiring story through Demi Deepa. This film not only showcases a father’s sacrifice for his daughter but also underscores the importance of good mental health in shaping a positive outlook on life,” she said.
Elina added that the Happiness campaign series aims to encourage Malaysians to appreciate the little joys in life. “Through our festive campaign series themed ‘Happiness’, we hope to inspire viewers to cherish every moment of joy with their families and to remain optimistic in facing life’s challenges,” she added.
For Deepavali 2024, Air Selangor released “Tiada Masalah, Cari Masala!”, following Suji as she feels overlooked when her elder sister Maya returns from abroad with new experiences and gadgets. After a tense moment, Maya reassures her, and the sisters reconcile over a cup of masala tea, just like their grandmother used to make.
