Agency of the Year and MARKies Malaysia 2020 shortlist announced

The results are in and the long wait is over for A+M’s Agency of the Year Awards Malaysia. For an 11th year, this awards is here to honour agency excellence for their outstanding client work and services, business performance, and general management across 21 defining categories. All agencies, big and small, have the chance to shine.

This year we introduced eight new categories: B2B Agency of the Year; Boutique Agency of the Year; Consultant of the Year; CRM & Loyalty Marketing Agency of the Year; Independent Agency of the Year; Influencer Agency of the Year; Integrated Marketing Agency of the Year; and Video / Production Company of the Year. 

Meanwhile, this year’s MARKies saw 27 refreshed categories up for contest across two main segments – Creative Ideas and Media Usage to recognise and reward the most innovative, creative and effective campaigns spanning Malaysia’s entire marketing services industry. The most popular categories were Most Creative – Consumer Event; Most Creative – Launch / Re-launch; Most Effective Use – Integrated Media; and Most Effective Use – Specific Audience. 

Agency of the Year and MARKies entries were judged by an independent panel of 60 client-side marketers. Judge Pablo Chabot, marketing director, Heineken Malaysia commented this year’s entrants clearly show a strong capability of not only harnessing consumer insights to deliver on strong media campaigns, but also increasingly driving both efficiency and effectiveness in media through the use of consumer data analytics and performance marketing.

Meanwhile, Alvin Chan, head of marketing communications, Sony Malaysia mentioned that it is good to see many agencies evolving and adapting so quickly to the digital world with so many great efforts made in building young talents. Also weighing in on the entries was Datuk Thomas Leong, group chief strategy officer, Sime Darby who said the entries were mostly from a consistently high standard. Despite facing a challenging year for the industry, a lot managed to perform well and attract new clients. He was impressed by entrants who set new standards and pushed boundaries in their respective categories, “it will be exciting to see what comes next”.
