Jun Wu from Hong Kong was crowned as the first winner of The Amazing Food Challenge: Fun in the Philippines, a contest produced together with the Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Tourism Promotions Board Philippines (TPB).
Three finalists out of 10 contestants battled for the title, tasked to prepare three Filipino dishes using the skills and knowledge they had learned during the show. Wu was joined by Malaysian image coach Connie Chew and Singapore resident Timothy Ong in the cooking showdown.
The 13-episode series opened the eyes, minds and palates of not just the lucky participants but was also a treat to AFC viewers as well. The local culture and cuisine of tourism hotspots like Cebu, Bicol, Lignon Hills and Mount Pinatubo were featured by the show, giving a boost to the DOT’s ongoing campaigns.
“Amazing Food Challenge: Fun in the Philippines takes viewers to various provinces in the country and shares the heritage and traditions that have been passed down by those who live there. As one of the leading food authorities in Asia, AFC is the perfect platform on which to showcase the diversity of the Filipino cuisine and culture,” said Domingo Ramon C. Enerio III, chief operating officer of TPB.
Wu took home a grand prize of $US 30,000 in cash and a Philippines travel package. Chew and Ong did not leave the competition empty handed, each taking home $US 4,000 and $US 6,000 in cash respectively and a 3D2N travel package to the Philippines.
