AEON Credit Service has appointed Wan Laila Fatihah Wan Omar Sukri (pictured) as its new general manager of group corporate communications and PR.
She previously led UEM Edgenta’s corporate communications function, where she rebuilt the department and steered brand visibility, ESG positioning, and stakeholder engagement across Malaysia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
Wan Laila brings more than 20 years of experience across branding, marketing, stakeholder management, and corporate communications, spanning industries such as oil and gas, asset management, media and broadcasting, and global trade. Prior to her role at UEM Edgenta, she was the director of strategic communications at the Malaysian Rubber Council, and also head of branding and stakeholder engagement, and she was also with Media Prima for nearly 7 years.

In her new role at AEON Credit, Wan Laila will oversee communications across internal, media, public relations, and investor relations, with a focus on building consistent and credible narratives for employees, customers, regulators, investors, and the wider community.
Reflecting on her move, she shared that AEON Credit’s consumer-facing role presents an opportunity to highlight stories that feel “more connected and human.” She added, “It’s about shaping conversations that go beyond products and numbers, and creating genuine connections.”
Wan Laila also noted that the communications industry in Malaysia is in a period of rapid change, but the fundamentals remain constant. “People want honesty, clarity and brands that feel human." She added: "Tools and platforms will keep changing, but what really matters is whether your communication builds trust and makes people feel connected. That will never go out of style."
Looking back on her time at UEM Edgenta, Wan Laila expressed gratitude for the trust and collaboration that defined her tenure. “Edgenta will always hold a special place in my career journey."
"I joined at a time when the communications function needed rebuilding, and together with my team and colleagues we strengthened the brand, elevated its visibility and delivered meaningful impact. I leave with deep gratitude for the friendships and lessons that I will carry forward," she said.
Malaysia’s corporate communications industry has experienced a wave of movement this year. In August, SIRIM, a government-owned company under the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), has appointed Shanizar Ahmad Shahar as its new general manager of corporate relations, reporting directly to the president and group chief executive officer.
In July, Frank Chan, stepped down as general manager of strategic communications at Telekom Malaysia (TM) after nearly three years in the role. Chan joined TM mid-2022, focusing on crsis communications, business continuity management, as well as media and content management. Prior to that, he was the AVP of strategic communications and marketing at Axiata for six years.
Meanwhile, Amelia Lim had been elevated to head of corporate communications at Shopee Malaysia, while continuing in her current role as head of public relations at Sea Limited Malaysia. In this expanded leadership capacity, Lim now oversees the strategic direction of communications across both Shopee and Sea in Malaysia.
