Adyen has appointed Gary Yang (pictured) as president for Asia Pacific, effective 1 August, as the fintech platform prepares for the retirement of current regional president Warren Hayashi at the end of 2026.
Based in Singapore, Yang will oversee the company's commercial growth and operations across Asia Pacific, succeeding Hayashi after nearly a decade of leadership in the region.
Yang joined Adyen in 2018 and most recently served as senior vice president and global head of account management and partnerships. In the role, he was responsible for scaling the company's merchant success strategy and global partner ecosystem.

Prior to Adyen, Yang held leadership positions across the technology sector, including vice president of operations at Peek and general manager at viagogo. His career also includes roles in strategy consulting at BCG, product management at Microsoft, software engineering at Booz Allen Hamilton and venture capital at GGV Capital.
The appointment forms part of Adyen's broader leadership strategy of moving experienced executives across global markets to strengthen customer relationships and support the company's next phase of regional growth.
Adyen currently operates across nine Asia Pacific markets, including Singapore, Sydney, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Auckland. Its regional client roster includes Agoda, Amazon Japan, Cathay Pacific, Hungry Jack's, Klook, Mandai Wildlife Group, MECCA, Oyo, Raffles Hotel, ROLLER, Singapore Airlines, Xiaomi, Temu and UNIQLO.
“Leading Adyen's APAC team has been an incredibly rewarding journey, and I am immensely proud of the foundation we’ve built. Passing the baton is always easier when the next leader is as exceptionally qualified as Yang. I look forward to working side-by-side with him over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition." said Hayashi.
He added, “Yang's profound understanding of our global commercial operations, as well as his strong technical background make him the ideal leader to build on our momentum and pilot the region forward.”
In tandem, Roelant Prins, chief commercial officer at Adyen said, “Bringing our most seasoned global talent into critical regional roles is a fundamental pillar of our growth strategy. It allows us to share deep institutional expertise across the business while staying hyper-focused on the evolving needs of local merchants."
"We are incredibly grateful to Hayashi for his outstanding leadership and dedication in building our strong footprint across Asia Pacific. We are excited to welcome Yang to Singapore. His proven track record in driving commercial growth will be invaluable as we accelerate our ambitions in Asia Pacific," he added.
Speaking on his new role, Yang said, "We are witnessing a critical era across Asia Pacific, with major fintech transformations in key markets such as India and Japan, and a demand for innovation in more mature markets such as Singapore and Australia as we enter the age of AI-driven commerce.”
“I am energised to take on this role and build upon the incredible foundation Hayashi and the team have established. Adyen is uniquely positioned to help businesses scale amid this transformation, and I look forward to working closely with our customers to help them achieve their ambitions faster," he added.
The appointment comes as fintech companies continue to strengthen their leadership teams across the region. Last year, Airwallex named Alin Dobrea as marketing director for Southeast Asia, tasking him with leading the company's regional marketing strategy and execution across Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and other Southeast Asian markets.
Reporting to Andrew Balint, regional vice president of marketing for APAC, Dobrea oversees initiatives aimed at helping businesses modernise their fintech infrastructure, spanning cross-border payments, embedded finance, global treasury and international expansion.
