ZUS Coffee expands 'Koleksi corak Malaysia' with new state-inspired designs

ZUS Coffee is continuing its celebration of Malaysia’s cultural heritage with the expansion of its "Koleksi corak Malaysia" (Malaysian pattern collection). First launched in 2024, the collection reimagines the brand’s bestselling “All day cup” tumbler with designs inspired by traditional attire and crafts from across the country.
The initiative was sparked by an observation that traditional motifs were often reserved only for festive occasions or weddings. By bringing them into lifestyle products, ZUS aimed to foster national pride, create collectibles for everyday use, and spotlight Malaysia’s artistic legacy year-round.

So far, six iterations have been released, with three more designs set to launch in November. The first edition featured "Malaysiaku" (My Malaysia), inspired by batik songket; "Pua kumbu" ("Woven blanket"), which honours the cultural heritage of the Iban people in Sarawak; and "Bunga tabur" ("Scattered flowers"), a motif commonly seen on the Malay men’s sampin (waistcloth).
The second edition introduces three new designs that expand the collection’s cultural depth. "Lawangan" ("Ceremonial motif") draws from the ceremonial textile siung papar and pays tribute to East Malaysia’s rich heritage. "Labu sayong" ("Sayong gourd"), a traditional earthenware vessel from Perak used to store drinking water, inspires another design, with its delicate leaf motifs and porous clay body that naturally cools its contents. Meanwhile, "Bunga rindu" ("Flowers of longing") reflects the vibrancy of Peranakan culture, capturing the floral patterns and colourful artistry of traditional Nyonya pottery that symbolises prosperity and familial continuity.
These latest additions were recently unveiled during the annual Keretapi Sarong (Sarong Train) event on Malaysia Day, where participants don traditional sarongs while riding public transport to celebrate local culture and diversity. The new designs were also further amplified on ZUS' social platforms, through a teaser featuring traditional Malay-styled illustrations, and a short video series featuring the sources of inspiration for each pattern, be it a potter making the labu sayong, a woman weaving the siung papar in Sabah, or a batik artist painting the Peranakan-themed floral patterns.
ZUS Coffee also plans to release three more designs later this year, in November, as a tribute to traditional patterns from all 14 Malaysian states.
According to the brand, "Koleksi corak Malaysia" represents more than design. "It’s a tangible appreciation of the generations of history, craft, and tradition that have passed down from one hand to another," a spokesperson told A+M. "It’s the treasuring of the motifs that have decorated our clothes, our furniture, and our cities for years back and in the years to come."
Over in the Philippines, ZUS Coffee unveiled Panlasang Pinoy, its first-ever Filipino-inspired drinks series, a campaign that intertwines flavour, nostalgia, and cultural heritage. The series, developed entirely by the local team, introduces three signature drinks: the ChamporadolLatte, inspired by the beloved childhood breakfast of chocolate rice porridge; Buko Salad Espesyal, a creamy and festive nod to the Filipino celebration staple; and Honey Kalamansi, a sweet and zesty drink with a distinctly local twist.
Just last month, ZUS Coffee Malaysia and MR D.I.Y. pulled out the stops with a limited-edition MR DIY x ZUS Coffee coffee-time essentials, including a canvas jute bag, sport crew socks, and frozee cup, which are available in selected MR D.I.Y. stores and online.
