In an industry built on storytelling and creativity, women have long been at the forefront of shaping narratives that move audiences and redefine culture. Yet, behind their success lies a journey of resilience, leadership, and breaking barriers.
As we celebrate International Women's Day 2025, we highlight the voices of women who have carved their paths in Indonesia's agency landscape, challenging norms and inspiring future generations. Check out what Windy Anindya Putri, the country head of Redhill Indonesia, has to say.
MARKETING-INTERACTIVE: What inspired you to pursue a career in this industry, and what has kept you motivated along the way?
Putri: I've always been drawn to storytelling and the power of communication. I initially wanted to be a writer, but life led me to study marketing communications. My career began in advertising industry at Ogilvy, where I learned the art of crafting compelling messages and shaping brand narratives.
Over time, I realised that marketing and PR go beyond just business, they have the power to influence people, industries, and even shape culture. They're not just about selling products but about creating impact, driving conversations, and connecting people in meaningful ways.
What keeps me motivated is seeing how a strong strategy can shift perceptions, open doors, and build something lasting. The dynamic nature of this industry excites me, and the constant evolution challenges me to keep growing.
MARKETING-INTERACTIVE: Can you share a pivotal moment in your career that shaped your approach to leadership or creativity?
Putri: Moving from an in-house marketing role to leading an agency team was a defining shift for me. Suddenly, I wasn't responsible for one brand, I had to manage multiple high stakes clients, drive strategy across industries, and lead a team at the same time.
That transition forced me to become more adaptable, decisive, and confident in my leadership style. I learned that great leadership isn't about knowing everything; it's about trusting your team, making strong calls, and staying clear on the bigger picture.
Another pivotal moment was working on a government-backed education project. It reinforced the idea that marketing and PR aren't just about selling, they can drive real change. That perspective shaped how I approach creativity: always with purpose, always with impact in mind.
MARKETING-INTERACTIVE: What challenges have you faced as a woman in the industry, and how have you navigated them?
Putri: One of the biggest challenges has been navigating leadership dynamics in traditionally male-dominated industries. In sectors like tech, corporate consulting, and automotive, I've sometimes had to work twice as hard to prove my expertise and make my voice heard.
I've learned that the best way to handle it is by staying unapologetically confident, focusing on results, and building strong relationships. Instead of conforming to traditional leadership styles, I lean into empathy and adaptability.
Another key lesson? You have to be your own biggest advocate, own your achievements with confidence and humility. If you don't celebrate your own successes, who will? I've learned to embrace self-advocacy by speaking up.
MARKETING-INTERACTIVE: What's one piece of advice you'd give your younger self when starting out?
Putri: Early on, I thought success meant having every step meticulously planned. But the most meaningful opportunities come from taking bold risks, staying open to growth, and embracing the unexpected.
I'd tell my younger self to lean into challenges with confidence, speak up even when it feels uncomfortable, and never shrink to fit into someone else's expectations. The right doors will open when you show up with purpose, resilience, and the courage to bet on yourself.
As these women continue to lead, mentor, and shape the future of the industry, their stories serve as a powerful reminder: success is not about fitting into predefined moulds—it's about redefining them entirely.
