UOB has joined forces with Indonesia’s leading edtech platform Ruangguru to launch a five-year initiative aimed at equipping 90,000 students with critical digital skills. The partnership forms part of UOB My Digital Space, the bank’s regional education programme designed to bridge the digital divide and foster future-ready talent.
The initiative will reach 500 schools annually across 60 cities in all 38 Indonesian provinces. Students will gain access to digital learning tools and curricula centred on critical and computational thinking - skills seen as essential in an AI-driven and digital-first economy.
Launched in 2020, UOB My Digital Space operates across seven markets including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. To date, the programme has empowered more than 38,000 students across Southeast Asia, with another 20,000 expected to benefit this year.

The national launch of the Indonesian edition was attended by senior government officials including Pratikno, coordinating minister for human development and cultural affairs, and Abdul Mu’ti, minister of primary and secondary education, alongside more than 1,000 participants.
“The launch of UOB My Digital Space in collaboration with Ruangguru reflects our commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen, supporting education and driving Indonesia’s broader economic and digital advancement. Aligned with the government’s Asta Cita vision, we believe that building strong foundations in education is key to unlocking national potential,” said Hendra Gunawan, president director of UOB Indonesia.
The programme comes at a time when Indonesia continues to face challenges in digital literacy. According to the Indonesian Digital Society Index, the country’s overall digital literacy score in 2024 was 43.34%, up slightly from 43.18% in 2023. While the steady progress reflects growing adoption of digital tools, the gap remains significant in fully integrating technology into economic and social activity.
By providing students with structured digital education, UOB and Ruangguru aim to narrow this divide, supporting Indonesia’s ambition to accelerate human capital development and strengthen competitiveness in the digital economy.
“This programme is designed to inspire confidence and equip students with the skills they need to thrive in the digital era. By combining Ruangguru’s innovative technology with UOB’s dedication to community development, we are helping students unlock their full potential and become future-ready,” said Belva Devara, CEO of Ruangguru.
The launch also forms part of UOB’s broader 90th anniversary commitments to education and community development across Southeast Asia. Headquartered in Singapore, UOB operates more than 470 branches and offices across 19 markets, with banking subsidiaries in China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
Meanwhile, Ruangguru empowers more than 45 million learners across Indonesia and Vietnam. With a suite of services ranging from subscription-based learning videos to interactive live teaching, tutoring, school LMS platforms and corporate training, the edtech firm operates through a nationwide network of over 350 branches.
