U Mobile has appointed Hanim Hamdan as its new head of communications and sustainability, bringing the former Lotus’s Malaysia communications chief into the telecommunications sector.
Hanim will oversee U Mobile’s communications and sustainability functions, working with teams across the business to align both areas with the company’s strategic priorities. Her remit covers internal and external communications, stakeholder engagement, reputation management and sustainability, with a focus on strengthening how the company engages employees and external stakeholders.
“I am excited to join an industry that is central to how people live, work, learn and connect. U Mobile has an important role in shaping that future, and I look forward to strengthening how we communicate our contribution and engage key stakeholders,” Hanim told A+M.

Hanim said her immediate priorities are to deepen her understanding of the business and its stakeholders, build relationships across the organisation and establish clear priorities for communications and sustainability.
She joins U Mobile after nearly six years at Lotus’s Malaysia, where she served as head of communications and sustainability from October 2020 to August 2026.
At Lotus’s, Hanim oversaw internal and external communications, media strategy and crisis management, alongside the retailer’s sustainability and CSR agenda. Her role also involved aligning sustainability ambitions with the wider group framework and translating them into initiatives and measurable outcomes.
One of the initiatives she developed was the #KitaKanJiran CSR framework, which brought together community engagement, school support and food assistance programmes. The initiative was designed to connect the retailer more closely with the communities around its stores while supporting its wider sustainability priorities.
Hanim said the programme was among the achievements she was most proud of during her time at Lotus’s.
“It demonstrated how a brand can translate purpose into practical impact and reinforced my belief that reputation is built through consistent action, credible leadership and sustained engagement,” she said.
Her experience at Lotus’s also saw communications and sustainability sit within the same remit, giving her a role across both reputation and corporate responsibility. That experience now forms part of the background she brings to U Mobile, where the two functions will similarly sit under her leadership.
Prior to Lotus’s, Hanim was head of external affairs and communication at Petrofac Malaysia, where she developed communications and stakeholder engagement strategies and oversaw internal and external initiatives, media relations and reputation management. She was also part of the company’s crisis response team and advised on public policy and regulatory matters, according to her LinkedIn.
Before that, she spent about one-and-a-half years at Prasarana Malaysia as senior vice president of group communications and strategic marketing, overseeing project communications, stakeholder engagement, digital media, customer relationship management, events and media relations. She also developed the group’s inaugural social media and communications policies.
Hanim spent nearly seven years at MISC Berhad as corporate communication manager, where she handled internal and external communications, corporate publications, digital channels, media relations, crisis communications and stakeholder engagement.
She began her career in agency and marketing, with roles at Denney & Denney and Kinetic Communications, working across corporate, FMCG and F&B accounts.
At U Mobile, Hanim said she is looking forward to joining a business operating in an industry that plays a central role in how people live, work, learn and connect.
Her focus in the initial stage will be on understanding the business, building relationships across the organisation and identifying the areas where communications and sustainability can have the greatest impact as U Mobile moves into its next phase of growth.
